Renewable Energy to Heat Your Home

There are many factors in the world today that make investing in renewable energy an attractive option. Rapidly increasing fuel costs are an important consideration, along with increasing pressure for us to be less reliant on fossil fuels and shrink our carbon footprint.

Investing in renewables for your home can be a cost effective way of side-stepping many of these issues and homeowners can look to the government for support with incentives such as a ‘feed-in’ tariff for excess electricity and grants available for renewable heating systems.

For home hot water and heating systems, there are several simple ways that free renewable energy can be harnessed. These include air source and ground source heat pumps and solar panels, all of which take naturally occurring heat directly from the environment around us and make use of it in our homes.

Air and ground pump systems work using similar technology to a fridge, by absorbing heat at low temperatures into a fluid and then compressing it to increase the heat under pressure. Although they do use some electricity to run, this is offset by the use of free and constantly renewed heat energy from the air or ground.

Other renewable technologies enable domestic customers to generate their own electricity through wind or solar power and also include fuels that come from renewable sources such as wood or post-consumer waste, which can be a cost effective and responsible alternative to gas.

So, far from being a technology for the future, renewable energy systems are a readily available and attractive option today.
